George Orwell shocked many readers with his prestigious book, 1984. He created a world where society is ruled by a party known as Big Brother. When I first picked up the book, I did not expect such a sinister world. I was hooked on to the protagonist, Winston Smith. As I followed Winston and his shifty resist against Big Brother, even I started to feel the pressure as he felt. I discover many different characters as the story progressed. One of the characters is Julia. She later became an essential character. Winston and Julia gone through many different obstacles. They became lovers and in the bitter end, they became nothing. 1984 is tragic story where two characters journey and rebel against a society. They thought they would be together forever, but instead they lost themselves. The story is amazing with different twist and turns. The imagery is stunning too. 1984 is truly a book that can relate to history and readers.
In the very beginning of time, people have tried to create new methods to support their living situation. A lot of people follow facts to change the most efficient way to live and others follow mentors. They all have great impact to people's lives, but the most influential is technology. Technology changed the way how people lived. In the beginning, technology was a tool to help us undergo and achieve things people never thought was possible. Great things have accord and people start to think differently. Technology started to become a drug, an obsession . It made society into a place where we never wanted to have. People have always thought technology has been a blessing to our lives, however they do not understand how much of a clutch technology can be.

Technology was created to be used as a tool to improve how a person lives. In this time and age, we use technology in a regular bases. In daily living situations, we use technology to help us more flexible in how we do things. Technology creates opportunities for many jobs and to many people. In the beginning of time, people have been creating different forms of inventions to help make living more easy.
During the 1900s, planes was created by the Wilbur and Orville Wright. Technology such as planes made it a lot more efficient to travel. Without the creation of air planes, it would be a lot harder to get to places. I find it important to use technology efficiently.
Technology also become our source of communication. Phones and Facebook became one of the best ways to communicate. In the article, "Technology: using power for good" social media became the biggest evolution since the 1900s. Information is a lot more easy to access. Cameras has the function to create memories. Having these technologies is helping us have a more fundamental life. I find this important because it create better opportunities for people to connect. To understand and know more people, means better communication. Technology is spread everywhere, and the reason is because it is more efficient.

My thesis is valid because technology can also be bad. Technology is such a need that people start to get distracted. They start to become a clutch and less of a tool to help us with life.

Thesis statement
Technology is used to improve people's lives, however it can also be used for the wrong reasons.
quotes
The Germans tried again on the Western front near Ypres, France; a five mile wide cloud of chlorine gas settled onto the French and Algerian trenches causing panic, death and destroyed moral.
What's not hard to gauge is the reach of online harassment. From inappropriate name-calling to death threats, cyber bullying is a pervasive and very real problem for adults as well as teens.
New technologies are making it easier for private companies and the government to learn the minutiae of our online activities
It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself – anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide.
denotation and connotation
During World War I, there were a lot of new inventions and technology. The Germans were the first people to invent poison gas. Poison gas is a deadly weapon that made multiple people die in both opposing sides. This is a dangerous matter because of the amount of lives were sacrificed. During that time, poison gas was an effective way to kill people, however the death is excruciating. Without the power of technology, poison gas would never come about.
Cyber bullying is a more recent matter that is a problem. Networking and socializing online is supposed to be a way where communicating is more efficient. But sometimes they can be used for the wrong reasons. Cyber Bullying can cause mental pain and also self pain. It is usually toward teenagers , but it can also affect adults as well. Facebook and Instagram are tools to express one's self, but people can take advantage and use it to attack you. A simple word can cause mental stress. It all ticks down to how self confident you are. if you have a low self-esteem, words can cause depression. Cyber bullying has not only caused problem to myself but also to my friends. When I was in middle school, technology was at its peak. Online socializing start to declare who is the most popular. The competition is crucial. A lot of kids who did not become popular are treated differently. In the end, only the popular kids were happy and treated normally.
Privacy has always been a critical part to live a life. We all have our own secrets that we do not want people to know. To have people see what we do can cause many problems. Not only do we need to be aware of what we do now, but also be extra careful. Internet is used to help us live a more convenient life, however if it is used to spy on what we do, it can cause problems. For companies and government look at what we do will cause some problems. Now a days, we use technology to find everything. Where we go, what we do, and what we want. To have these motives completely known, we can't even do the most littlest things. Supervision is great, but only to a point where it is understanding.
In the short story, 1984, George Orwell created a society where the Big Brother can see what you do. The telescreen is a tool that Big Brother uses to supervise what people are doing. Because of that, people's privacy is stripped away. The actions you do are all judge by Big brother. With even a slight movement that show that you might be against him can causes death. Winston, the protagonist, lives  in a society were even technology is against him. Technology has always been important to me. I try to see technology as a way to make life easier, but sometimes it can be harmful. The telesreen is an invention that can causes a lot of different problems.
